چکیده

We discuss features of simple inter-particle potentials which are able to generate low-packing fraction arrested states, i.e. gels, in the absence of a macroscopic phase separation phenomenon. We suggest that the ratio between surface and bulk free energy is crucial in favoring ideal gel states. Two possible models for gels, one based on the competition of short range attraction and long range repulsions and the other on local constraints disfavoring packed local structures are discussed.  2005 Elsevier B.V. COMPARATIVE STUDY ON PROPERTIES OF NANOSTRUCTURED TITANIA SYNTHESIZED BY COLLOIDAL AND POLYMERIC SOLGEL ROUTES

Abstract:Nanostructured titania was synthesized by colloidal and polymeric sol-gel routes. Stable colloidal and polymeric titania sols were prepared by adjusting the proper values of the acid/alkoxide and the water/alkoxide molar ratios. The properties of sols were determined by dynamic light scattering technique and synthesized titania was characterized by thermogravimetry and differential the...

Colloidal gels: equilibrium and non-equilibrium routes

We attempt a classification of different colloidal gels based on colloidcolloid interactions. We discriminate primarily between non-equilibrium and equilibrium routes to gelation, the former case being slaved to thermodynamic phase separation while the latter is individuated in the framework of competing interactions and of patchy colloids. Emphasis is put on recent numerical simulations of col...

Preparation and Characterization of Colloidal Silica in Alkaline and Constant Range of pH

In this study, alkaline colloidal silica was prepared by titration of an alkaline solution such as sodium silicate with silicic acid in constant range of pH  .This constant range of pH was achieved by using concentrated soduim silicate solutions as pH adjusting solutions during titration. The sodium silicate solutions  having a variety of...

INFLUENCE OF NANO SILICA ON PROPERTIES AND MICROSTRUCTURE OF HIGH ALUMINA ULTRA-LOW CEMENT REFRACTORY CASTABLES

Colloidal silica bonded refractory castables have been developed recently. It was found that colloidal silica is one of the best binders can substitute other binders such as cement in No Cement Castable (NCC) and Ultra Low Cement Castable (ULCC) refractories. Also composition of colloidal silica with appropriate additives resulted in a gel form which makes the initial strength. Moreover, the na...

Colloid-in-liquid crystal gels formed via spinodal decomposition.

We report that colloid-in-liquid crystal (CLC) gels can be formed via a two-step process that involves spinodal decomposition of a dispersion of colloidal particles in an isotropic phase of mesogens followed by nucleation of nematic domains within the colloidal network defined by the spinodal process. This pathway contrasts to previously reported routes leading to the formation of CLC gels, whi...

Studies on the Formation of Mullite from Diphasic Al2O3-SiO2 Gel by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy

Al2O3-SiO2 diphasic gel was synthesized by sol gel route from aluminium nitrate and silicic acid following aqueous phase colloidal interaction. The precursor gel powder was thoroughly characterized by chemical analysis, measurement of surface area and bulk density measurement. The gel powder was further characterized by thermogravimetry, XRD diffraction stud...
